    Somers Scores Top Spot

AUGUST 14, 2018 - LUTZ, FL - Congratulations to the new Assistant Professional Champion!
John Somers (Old Memorial Golf Club) takes home the trophy after making a 137 total during the two-day tournament. Somers held on to the first spot on the leaderboard throughout the event at TPC Tampa Bay.  Weather conditions were overcast both days but groups avoided the rain and pace of play could continue as normal.

Including the champion who won with 5 under par, three players qualify for the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL.  Colin Van Es (Providence Golf Club) earned the second qualifier spot with a total of 139, 3 under par.  Joseph Stepnes (Timuquana Country Club) earned the third qualifier spot with a total of 143, 1 over par.

Dalton Gore (East Lake Woodlands Country Club), Spencer Smith (St. James Bay), Emily Motta (Mountain Lake), and Joe Ferreira V (Plantation) all made 144 for the tournament, resulting in a four-way tie.  Due to the tie, the three alternate qualifier spots were contended for in a hole-by-hole playoff starting on the first tee.  After the playoff hole, Motta was eliminated, leaving Gore, Smith, and Ferreira as the three alternate qualifiers for the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship.

August 13, 2018 - LUTZ, FL - The first round of the 2018 NFPGA Assistant Professional Championship has wrapped. This Monday was the first round of the 2018 NFPGA Assistant Professional Championship held at TPC Tampa Bay in Lutz, FL with 39 competitors in the field.  The event is supported by sponsors National Car Rental, Srixon, Cleveland Golf, XXIO, Golf Advisor, John Deere, and Precise Yardage Books.

The course par is set at 71 and six out of thirty-nine competitors are currently in contention.  Four competitors are under par on the leaderboard; John Somers (69), Emily Motta (70), Joe Ferreira (70), and Colin Van Es (70).  Spencer Smith made even (71) and Aaron Russell is one over par (72).
