You have displayed incredible dedication to the game of golf and to the North Florida PGA Section in general. What is it that motivates you to show such dedication and devotion to the game?
Think of the meaningful relationships that are built around this game and in the business. That’s what motivates me. Whether it’s members, staff, students, or fellow Professionals, the impact we can have on others is astounding. Also, the game of golf contains parallelisms with life that no other game can offer. A round of golf can encompass every emotion, and can help us learn more about ourselves on and off the course.
Who introduced you to the game and what's the story behind that?
My exposure to the game of golf was very limited growing up. It consisted of my older brother and I occasionally buying a club from Goodwill, then taking to the range and seeing who could hit a ball the farthest. While in high school my math teacher, who was also the golf coach, invited me to practice with the team. My main sport at the time, baseball, was in the off-season so I gave golf a try. I was instantly enamored by this great game.
We believe that PGA Members are the experts in the game and business of golf. Our Members are passionate about playing, learning, serving, and leading. Out of these 4 passion areas, which is most important to you and why?
While all four are obviously important, learning and leading are always in the forefront. Golf Professionals who lead a golf staff are in a unique position to mentor Assistant Professionals and provide them with the resources and knowledge to achieve their own career and personal goals. I take great pride in that responsibility. A good leader will never stop learning. There’s something new we can learn every day. It may be something not specific to golf that we can still apply to our operation. I challenge my staff to keep an open mind, share ideas, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Actually, one of the proudest moments I’ve had is when I learn something from an individual on my staff.
What is something that your fellow PGA Members might not know about you?
Any time away from the club, I enjoy having fun with my wife and 2 young children. I’m also a huge Chicago Cubs fan. I follow the organization, including minor league levels all year long. Go Cubs!
If your golf ball could speak, what would it say to you or about you?
