In the opening round of the 2019 North Florida PGA Section Championship, only 8 of the 66 competitors managed to break par, and leading that group is Bryan Florio after he carded a 3-under-par 69. He enters Tuesday’s second round with a one-stroke lead over Mark Rummings and David Hronek, who are tied for second.
“I’ve been with the North Florida PGA Section for three years now and I enjoy participating in these tournaments because I just love competing with these guys,” said Florio following the round. “I feel great about how I played in today’s round. My best hole of the day, I would have to say, was the postage stamp. I hit it close to the hole on the par 3 and made the putt. In tomorrow’s round, I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing and I encourage my competitors to continue to play well.”
Tied in fourth with 1-under-par are Matt Borchert, Hayes Farley, Nick Frontero, Gregory McClimans, and Donny Lee. Rod Perry follows close behind with an even 72 par.

36 holes are in the books after day two of the North Florida PGA Section Championship, leaving 66 competitors to battle it out. With the third round in the distance, several players have climbed their way up the leaderboard. Donny Lee has taken the lead after he carded a 5-under-par 67 and finished 6-under par for the tournament. Lee goes into Wednesday’s third round with a four-stroke lead over David Damesworth, Matt Borchert, and David Hronek, who are all tied for second.
Lee had a solid first round score of a 1-under par 71 on Monday. Beginning two shots off the first round leader, Bryan Florio, Lee put together a solid round by shooting 5-under par 67. During his 5-under round, Lee earned himself an Eagle Award by holing out for eagle on the 448 yard Par-4 13th. Lee was one of two players to record an eagle for the day. The final round is tomorrow, with a four shot lead, Lee sets his eyes on his second Section Championship Title.
Rod Perry ends round two with a 1-under par 71 moving him into fifth place. Perry enters the final round five shots off the leader, Lee. There are currently five players tied for sixth, Christian Bartolacci, Barry Cheesman, Jeff Leonard, Hayes Farley, and Bryan Florio rounding out the top 10. Earning Eagle awards for round two are, Donny Lee (-6), and Jeff Leonard (E).
Day three is in the books, and in a surprising turn of events, Rod Perry was able to pull ahead from fifth place to take home the trophy. After a long round, Donny Lee finished the day with a score of 4-over landing him tied for fourth with David Damesworth. Matt Borchert spent the day besting his previous scores for the week and finished up his round with a 2-under par for a total score of 4-under.
Rod Perry spent the first half of the round 1-over par, but was able to pull it back with four birdies in the second half, allowing Perry to tie with Borchert leading to a playoff. the playoff finished in one hole, with Perry besting Borchert by 1 stroke. Perry has now won the NFPGA Section Championship 6 times.
After competing in his 19th event for the year, Matt Borchert earned a total of 5,425 points for Player of the Year. By winning Player of the Year, Borchert has earned a spot in the Valspar Championship for 2020. This is the first time since 2009 that Rod Perry has not secured Player of the Year.Susan Bond-Philo and Jennifer Borocz played in the NFPGA's inaugural Women's Section Championship on Monday and Tuesday. With a score of 8-over, Bond-Philo took home the title of Women's Champion.
