2009 Year of Charity

The board’s main goal of 2009 was to align our chapter with local charities. The 2009 Golf Marathon was held at Countryside C.C. in May where 26 professionals played 2700 HOLES of golf in ONE DAY !!!. Each professional team raised money via donations at their facilities and our chapter raised over $ 8,000.00 for the Children’s Cancer Center of Tampa. The Center used the proceeds to conduct exciting summer camps for children with cancer. THANKS to all the professional who played. It was fun- and not too tiring!! The 2010 Golf Marathon will benefit the Shriner’s Hospital of Tampa in buying wheel chairs for the kids.

With a minimal assistance from the WCC, Bill Gilkes conducted the charity event of the summer.  The “Thanks the Troops” event was a double shotgun event held at Plantation Palms G. C. on September 11th. The monies raised helped our wounded veterans from all over the country. A fabulous dinner and auction was held after the golf; and Bill announced that $ 67,000.00 was raised!! A special thanks goes out to the sponsors and professionals who participated and a big thank you to Bill. Next year he will conduct two Thanks the Troops event: one in New York and one in Tampa.
